Imitation is the highest form of flattery

One of our kind followers just notified us of a company in India whose web site bears a striking resemblance to ours. I've always been one for doing thorough research for design inspiration and appropriation is a large part of creative industries but I think this just takes it a little too far. Coco Chanel once stated "imitation is the highest form of flattery" and while I don't think their site does our design justice, I guess we've got to take it as a compliment. I'm not so sure about their "appropriation" of our testimonials though. What do you think?

Another company, in Minneapolis, MN. has copied your site. http://www.rocket55.com

I too can see their fingerprints on your painting. The smudges stained the surface while making photocopies of the canvas. Picked up a (red) brush and signed their name. Unfortunately the general public may be colorblind to the forgery. To us, they've
clearly added alcohol to your water. Integration of their additional copy is...choppy. Though we look for inspirational direction(s), our talent should be steering the driving wheel. To all the thoughtless - "get original"...

Being an Indian I feel really ashamed. What they have done is not at all acceptable. what a joke!!

This is shame. I am really sorry. As an Indian I feel terrible. I had similar experience a while ago. My design is nowhere close to your design, but someone had copied not only my design but our entire content word by word. I had threaten them and they
finally removed it Hope they do the right thing. Find their customers and send them emails. Register an complain with Indian software associations such a Nasscom

Unfortunately I just found another web design company in India that has copied off your website, to a slightly lesser degree but still just as bad: http://makecolor.in/

If they're an Indian company then most of their customers will be based abroad. It''s therefore highly likely that they are being found on Google. You can have Google remove sites from their results which violate copyright. This would effectively render
their business uselesss. Send them an email threatening just that and if they don't change anything then have them removed. Simple!

Wow! I was just admiring your site. It was clearly well thought out, and was obviously a long process from start to finish when compared with one of your previous postings. I feel for you in regards to the Magiccroxs thing. This is a clear case of copyright
infringement especially if they're using the exact same images and css tags. Your best bet would be to use images that aren't stock images. You could get a photographer to only relinquish the production rights to you and you alone. This way you would have
clear grounds for copyright infringement. Plagiarism in any way should always be an indictable offense, but what can you do when they live halfway around the world and get paid less than your minimum wage. A lot of the times when it comes to business its dog
eat dog. Twofold, you rule!

That's amazing, what a joke. It's blatant. It's amazing how pathetic some people will be. Why someone would rip off work like that perplexes me. Cease and cease and desist!

This is beyond imitation, this is ripping off, they are probably making a profit out of using your website. I've been also ripped quite a few times (it's specially common when you work for gaming websites) and there's little you can do about this, so sad.
The worst is when for whatever reason the imitator grows larger than the source, I've had that happen and my client wasn't happy about it, but what can I do when I'm only hired to create a website, not to promote it? Only thing I could do is post publicly
on my portfolio and have him redirect that post, guess that cleared his name, but it sure was an uncomfortable situation. So you guys have my sympathies, I'm pretty sure this case won't happen to you here though :D, just thought it was a story worth telling
in this regard.

This is a shame. Also this is a reason why Indian designers are not taken seriously. I think twofold should take action against those guys.

they didn't even take the effort to rename the css-classes ... they just copied the whole thing. But I totally agree with Coco Channel's quote. The twofold website is pretty awesome.

As a web designer I believe in the open source community and borrowing of ideas. Once inspired by another site one should not do a replica of the exact site but rather take the idea and improve on it. What they have done is unacceptable...

This is just not on! It seems that many of the best agency sites are being ripped off lately, usually with terrible grammer (when the culprit actually bothers to change the copy - I've seen one that *just* changed the company name throughout the entire
site!). Start sending them a few e-mails and see if you get anything back. If not I'd contact their host / ISP - This is simply a breach of copyright.
